How to move across the country & the mistakes to avoid.

Updated: Jan 4, 2023

If you are thinking about moving to a different city or state, keep reading for the steps to take and what mistakes to avoid.

  • Get a remote job: The advantage of having a remote job is the flexibility of living wherever you want! The ideal situation is to get your remote job secured before moving. Make sure you are allowed to live in that specific city, state, or country first.

  • Become a minimalist: Watch Marie Kondo on Netflix and minimize your life. Life is so much better without the additional crap that fill our homes. Also, being a minimalist lessens your impact on this earth. Stop buying shit you don't NEED, you don't NEED the latest fashion trend that you will hate next year or that many cooking pots.

- Mistake to avoid: Don't spend a lot of move to move! If you minimize moving will be super easy to move everything in your car! Well I pulled a trailer behind my car, but it was super easy and cheap to move that way!

  • Research MULTIPLE Cities: Gather a list of 10 cities, the more the better! Even include places you really love but don't think they are attainable, or any cities you are curious about.

- Mistake to avoid: I moved somewhere because it was the best fit financially, even though it did not fit my lifestyle. It was also challenging for me to be so far away from friends and family. Because, unless you have hella money to be flying back and forth to see your family, you will likely not see them very much!

  • Visit Multiple Cities: Visit at least 3 cities, including ones you already been to. Go stay at least for a week. Try to understand what your day to day will look like. if you live there.

- Mistake to avoid: Listen to your gut. If you have a feeling you won't enjoy living there, listen. I overlooked this feeling when I moved to Austin initially. I moved somewhere even though I had a feeling that it wasn't right for me. Don't mistake this feeling for fear. If you didn't have any fear for new beginnings you are probably not getting yourself out of your comfort zone!

  • Understand the cost of living: Make a spreadsheet and include all of your weekly/monthly expenses, try to understand how that will change depending on where you live. Make sure to include the following: food, gas, living expenses, electric cost, insurance, internet, car registration, income taxes, property taxes, entertainment, moving expenses, etc.

-Mistake to avoid: Be aware that all of these expenses fluctuate depending on where you move to, do the research properly.

  • Just do it!!!: Stop being scurred and just do it! You will never regret taking a leap of faith and starting a new adventure in your life. You will learn about yourself and how to deal with challenges in your life. You will learn how to make friends in new surroundings and broaden your horizon. 100% recomend to do it!

What are you waiting for? Girl, vámonos!
